Justin Atherton, M.D., joined Surgery, Inc. in 2000 in the practice of general and vascular surgery.
He was born in Bethesda, Maryland, grew up in Bartlesville, and earned his undergraduate degree in physiology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Dr. Atherton attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma, City.
Both his internship and residency training took place on the University of Oklahoma Heath Sciences Center’s Tulsa campus. In his final year of training, Dr. Atherton served as Chief Resident in surgery program.
Dr. Atherton has privileges at both St. John’s Medical center and Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital. His practice includes all areas of general surgery. He also trained in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) and vascular surgery. He also has a special interest in anterior exposures of the spine. He assists several of the neurosurgeons and orthopedist based out of St. John’s and Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital with this procedure.
He serves as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa campus. The honor of clinical teacher of the year was awarded to him for the 2001 and 2003 school year. Dr. Atherton is board certified by the American Board of Surgeons and is a Fellow to the American College of Surgery. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Tulsa County Medical Society and Tulsa Surgical Society. Dr. Atherton is certified instructor in the Advanced Trauma Life Support program.
Dr. Atherton sees patients at the main Surgery, Inc. office located on the campus of St. John Medical Center at 21stand Utica.
